Project Details
In season, Lynah Rink often operates 22 hours a day. The rink serves club intramural teams, figure skaters, Ithaca youth hockey leagues, and physical education classes. Located at the heart of campus, Lynah Rink is steeped in tradition. To preserve this tradition, Cornell will renovate Lynah, rather than build anew.
Everyone in the larger Cornell community who plays hockey, watches hockey or skates will benefit from this project. Moreover, a revitalized Lynah Rink will serve as a major draw to outstanding student-athletes in an increasingly competitive recruiting environment.
With a $6.5 million investment (to be funded by gifts, ticket revenue and other sources), a one-story, 16,700 square foot addition will be constructed to Lynah?s south; new concourses will be created on the rink?s north and south sides to allow for expanded seating and the creation of "box" seats; and the press box will be updated to better serve the media. In sum, the following features will be created and/or enhanced:
- Six locker rooms, as opposed to four, with significant expansions and enhancements in terms of meeting rooms, cardiovascular and rehabilitation training areas, and facilities for visiting, club, and intramural teams
- Offices and locker rooms for the head and assistant coaches
- Study lounges for student-athletes
- State-of-the-art video rooms
- Bike and skating treadmill rooms
- Multipurpose room for receptions, meetings with recruits, etc.
- 10 premium viewing areas
- 450 additional seats, generating over $180,000 additional ticket sale revenue annually
- Concourse with ample space for concessions
- Updated press box
These improvements to Lynah Rink will place Cornell Hockey on par with the top 25 programs in the country and ensure a top-notch experience for all who access the facility in any capacity.
